KOI is a Japanese restaurant with an entrance gated by large, ornately carved wooden doors which create a feeling of privileged exclusion (your ticket to inclusion is The Single Gourmet). Beyond the gates there’s a bamboo garden guarded by a benevolent Buddha statue invoking a feeling of peace. But, in fact, this venue is a hot spot which offers Japanese cuisine - not a place where Buddha would want to hang - but definitely a venue for Single Gourmets to enjoy a family-style meal.
Our first course tonight is salad of organic field greens with miso dressing, and the second course is a cold dish of seared tuna with jalapeno and garlic chips. The entree is miso bronzed black cod, served with a medley of vegetables. Shrimp rolls and salmon rolls follow. And the sweet ending is a platter of assorted sweets, which could include molten chocolate cake, creme brulee, and mochi - the Japanese version of ice cream. |
