| MAKO is a favorite of Single Gourmets in both LA and OC. Just hearing the name Mako makes one salivate. The service is friendly but efficient; the surroundings tight and friendly . . . how can anyone be grouchy when the tongue and tummy are so happy? The elation emanates from starters such as Asian chicken salad (a la Chinois), duck potstickers, and shrimp Pad Thai; and entrees such as sauteed black cod with ponzu, mushrooms, ginger and sizzling sesame oil; sauteed Diver scallops and mushroom ravioli; or Black Angus prime filet mignon with cognac garlic sauce, accompanied by Schezwan green beans served family-style. Sweet ending choices which cap the meal could be chocolate mousse on a toasted almond crust, or butterscotch pot de creme with whipped cream and chocolate chip cookies. |
